Sally Jessy Raphael has lowered the asking price for her Tudor-esque mansion in New York’s Hudson Valley once again. The former talk show host, 91, dropped the price to $3.95 million, a more than $1 million discount from the $5 million asking price when the property was relisted in May, according to Mansion Global. The home was originally listed for $6.5 million, when it came to the market in 2023.
Despite the lack of a sale, Raphael’s real estate is impressive. The elaborate residence, which is called Elmwood Farm, is located two hours north of Manhattan, on 25 acres of land in the Quaker Hill community. It features steeply pitched roofs, moody Gothic spires, a four-story Elizabethan tower, richly decorated interiors, and a long gated drive through green lawns.
Raphael first purchased the mansion for $1.725 million in 1997. Before that, it had been in the same family for nine generations, since it was a stretch of farmland in the mid 1700s, according to Hudson Valley Magazine.
The property’s history can apparently be traced back to 1744 and the main mansion was built over a period from the 1860s to the early 1900s. After purchasing it, Raphael spent over $1 million in upgrades and aimed to preserve its character, listing agent Jake Garay with Serhant said.
“It really takes you back 175 or 180 years,” he said. “It’s definitely a period piece. It’s out of that time and that era.”
Raphael’s property listing comes at a time when she’s been living a more private life than in the days of her popular talk show, Sally, which aired from 1983 to 2002. Although she doesn’t step out into the spotlight as often, she still stays active on social media. In addition to sharing throwback clips of her show, she keeps fans updated on her life with photos and messages.
In March, she shared a loving photo of her and her late husband Karl Soderlund, who died in 2020, while wishing him a Happy Birthday. “Happy Birthday Karl… love you & miss you everyday ❤️,” she wrote on X.
