Police Arrest Man With Knife Near Set of New ‘Miami Vice ’85’ Movie Starring Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan

On Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, a man who allegedly had a knife was arrested in Brooklyn near the set of Miami Vice ’85, NBC News reported. The new film from Universal stars Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed) and Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).

“Alex Perez, 23, of Brooklyn, was arrested just after 11 p.m. on accusations that he displayed a knife during a verbal dispute with another man in the area of Avenue N and McDonald Avenue, the New York City Police Department said,” according to NBC News. The NYPD also stated, “The individual was then taken into custody without incident, and the knife was recovered.”

No one was injured during the incident or arrest, and NBC News reports that “Perez was charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon,” while also noting that “[i]t was not immediately clear if he has retained an attorney.”

The new production featuring Jordan and Butler was filming nearby, in the area of the Washington Cemetery.

Starring the two A-list actors as Ricardo Tubbs and James “Sonny” Crockett, the cast also features Alden Ehrenreich (Weapons, A Talent for Murder) and Whitney Peak, “who will portray Lenore Dove in the upcoming The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (2026) film,” according to Deadline. After these additions to the already impressive cast were announced, next came “the news of Camila Morrone’s and Danny Ramirez’s castings,” before we found out that John Leguizamo “will portray the villain in the flick.”

Andrew Schulz, Walton Goggins, André Holland, Michael Irby, and Haley Lu Richardson will also appear in the newest version of Miami Vice, which first charmed and captivated fans as a series in the 1980s starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

Although the new movie was originally scheduled to be released in August 2027, it is now set for May 19, 2028.
